You can draw a parallel with building websites and building houses. As a front-end web developer I make sure the house is move-in-ready and looks beautifully decorated. But I can also act as a ‘house inspector’ and make sure that the house is safe and up to standards. So in addition to being a front-end web developer, I also do some back-end web development.
My back-end web development work includes securing the sites from hackers or bots that can use your site to generate spam, optimizing the elements of your website to make sure that your site runs lightning fast for all users, and make sure that search engines like Google are able to see and add your site to search results.
It’s a lot of technical skill, but also a lot of visual, creative skill - and it’s something I love to do!
I started building sites as a hobby in 2009, and then professionally, full-time since 2016. One of the things I love about this career is that it’s ever-changing. You always get to learn new tools and techniques that make websites top-tier.
